South African footy players head to Launceston

Broker Buzz 11 May 2011

Launceston-based Bugg Goninon Insurance Brokers has helped to give two South African AFL players the opportunity of a lifetime.

The company has assisted the South Launceston Football Club in bringing the two players out to Launceston for the 2011 season.

The two young men, Khayalethu Sikiti, 25, and Tshoboko Moagi, 20, will play and work for the club until August, when they will represent their country in the International Series of AFL.

Known to their teammates as 'Loader' and 'Hippo' respectively, the pair is living together near the club’s facilities and will undertake various AFL programs while in town.

When not playing or training, Sikiti and Moagi will help with junior coaching programs, work in the gym and lend a hand at the club’s many functions.

Bugg Goninon Insurance Brokers is a major sponsor of South Launceston, with the company’s Director, Ian Goninon, also serving as the club’s chairman.

Goninon first floated the idea with the AFL after attending the AIMS Conference in South Africa last year.

A spokesperson for the company, Nick Hutchinson, said the two players had been in Launceston since 31 March and had been fitting in very well.

"This program has been a fantastic opportunity to help these two guys out," he told Broker Buzz. "They were unemployed back home so this a tremendous way for them to build, learn and develop new skills.

"We hope that this will become an annual program to bring out young AFL players from all over the world."

Upon returning to South Africa, Sikiti and Moagi will take their skills back to the AFL FootyWild program to help other budding sports stars.
