South Australians and Western Australians more optimistic

New research from Allianz has revealed where the happiest and most optimistic people in Australia are.

An Allianz-Newspoll survey has found that a relatively high 85% of South Australians and Western Australians were optimistic about their future happiness. This was significantly higher than those living in New South Wales and Victoria, while Queensland residents were the least optimistic about their future happiness.

The Allianz Future Optimism Index measures Australians’ level of optimism about the future of the economy, environment and society, as well as their overall prospects and happiness.

Commenting on the results, Allianz Managing Director, Terry Towell, said, “South Australia might not have the natural endowments of some of other States – Sydney’s harbour, Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef or Western Australia’s mineral and energy resources – but that hasn’t stopped South Australians being among the most optimistic of all Australians when it comes to their future prospects and happiness.”

Despite their optimism, South Australians are decidedly less likely to be optimistic about the future of the environment due to pollution and climate, and the future of society in relation to crime levels and community values.

“The Allianz Future Optimism Index provides a fascinating insight into how Australians see their future, and the South Australian results are quite interestingin terms of the difference between South Australians’ levels of optimism about their future happiness and the economy on the one hand, and the environment and the society on the other,” said Towell.
