NIBA’s first-ever Trainee of the Year announced

He made a late entry to the insurance industry but Donald Keast has wasted no time in making his mark, taking out NIBA College’s inaugural Trainee of the Year award.

The 44-year-old has today been announced as the first ever winner of the award, which is based on NIBA College academic performance.

The prize includes a free trip to this year’s NIBA Convention, as well as $250 cash and further study opportunities, all thanks to award sponsor QBE.

Keast, from Oxley Insurance Brokers, joined the broking industry after 18 years in business banking and says he relishes the variety his new career brings.

“Every time I pick up the phone I don’t know what I’m going to get,” he says. “There’s something different every time.”

Keast says NIBA College was invaluable for providing him with the knowledge base he needs to thrive in the industry.

“It gives you good grounding to move forward. It really helped me,” he says.

QBE also sponsors the NIBA College Student of the Year award, the winner of which will be announced live at the NIBA Convention in September.
