One of NSW’s most experienced brokers, as well as one the state’s top rising stars, have been named NIBA’s 2015 NSW broker award winners and are now gunning for national glory.
At a gala event in Sydney last Friday, Austbrokers SPT Managing Director Brian Salisbury was named the NSW/ACT Broker of the Year, while JLT’s Amanda Blackburn scooped up the Young Professional Broker of the Year Award.
NIBA CEO Dallas Booth says: “We wish Brian and Amanda the best of luck in the national awards, and we congratulate all the finalists, who exemplify the highest standards of professionalism and competence in the broking industry.”
Salisbury took the broker prize ahead of runners-up John Fallon (Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers) and Jeff Murdoch (Emjay Insurance Brokers).
Salisbury has almost 45 years of experience in the industry, and started his firm in 1975. Now employing 18 staff, Austbrokers SPT works across many lines, as well as offering tailored products to a range of niches.
Since 2013, he has also been the Asia Pacific Director of UNIBA, a global insurance broker network.
The Broker of the Year Award, sponsored by Zurich Australia Insurance Limited, goes to an individual broker who is deemed an inspirational role model for the broking community, who has demonstrated excellence in broking practice and client advocacy.
Meanwhile, JLT’s Amanda Blackburn beat out Drew Ferns (AJG) and Eric Lowenstein (Aon) to be named the Young Professional Broker of the Year, sponsored by Vero.
A member of the broking industry since 2007, Blackburn is currently the National Manager of JLT’s Consumer and Business Solutions division and has previously won numerous in-house awards.
In accepting the award, she paid tribute to the invaluable contributions the late Steve Ball made to her career.
Blackburn will now go on vie for the national Warren Tickle Memorial Award, which recognises the most promising rising stars aged under 35.
The national award winners will be named at the NIBA Convention in Melbourne from 6–8 September.
