A note from NIBA CEO Dallas Booth

After nearly 12 months of hard work here at NIBA, supported by our Convention Committee and the NIBA Board of Directors, the 2019 NIBA Convention was held last week at The Star, Gold Coast.

From all feedback to date, everyone had a wonderful time, and the Convention was a great success.

We put a lot of thought into the conference program and the selection of our plenary speakers. Dr Kirstin Ferguson was very impressive, dealing with the future of leadership and the challenges that leaders face at the present time.  And we rarely get a standing ovation for one of our speakers, but Kurt Fearnley AO received great acclamation for his presentation on his achievements over many years. He is a truly great Australian.

We were able to offer a wide range of industry speakers on topics which are very relevant for brokers at the present time. We are grateful for the time and effort from all our industry speakers.

A particular feature was the session with the President of the Insurance Council of Australia, Richard Enthoven, and the President of NIBA, Eric Harris, on the State of the Industry. Richard’s presentation has been reported in Insurancenews.com.au, and touched on all the main challenges and opportunities facing the insurance industry at the present time.

As usual, our Expo hall was a centre of great discussion, engagement and learning.  It was great to see delegates spending quality time with our exhibitors.

And we had some fun at the CGU Pool Party and the QBE Gala Dinner (the gin bar was a great hit!). You can view all the galleries from the event here.

Sincere congratulations to our Broker of the Year, Lisa Carter, and our Young Professional Broker of the Year, Caitlin Carson. And congratulations too to our Small/Medium General Insurer of the Year (based on gross written premium in Australia) Chubb, and our Large Insurer of the Year, Vero.

Sincere thanks to Allianz, CGU, QBE, Vero and Zurich for their wonderful support of NIBA 2019, and to all the sponsors and exhibitors who helped make the event a success.

I look forward to seeing you in Melbourne in 2020.
