The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) has unveiled its 2018 flagship public speaking competition for young professionals in the insurance industry, the Ron Shorter Public Speaking Award.
The award provides industry young professionals (YPs) with public speaking training and exposure to industry peers and luminaries. More than 200 YPs have benefited since the award began in 2012.
This year’s competition is open to all YPs (under 35 years of age) in life, general insurance, reinsurance and insurance law in all states and territories.
AILA National President Angus Kench said the award was “a fantastic opportunity for YPs to further their skills”. He urged all YPs, including applicants from prior years who did not win, to enter. Applicants nominate an insurance-related topic they would like to speak on. Entries close on 4 May and those who enter before 6 April go into a draw to win a $100 pre-paid Visa card.
Successful applicants will attend public speaking training workshops. Workshop participants receive training from Polaris Coaching and then give two-minute presentations on their topics. Three finalists in each location will progress to the finals.
At the finals, competitors speak for 10 minutes on their topics and battle for the grand prize before a panel of judges and an audience of industry professionals.
State winners will receive economy airfares, two nights’ accommodation and registration for the AILA National Conference (31 October – 2 November) in Perth and deliver their winning speeches at the conference. Click here to submit your applications.
