College funding success

More than 200 brokers have completed their Certificate IV or Diploma of Insurance Broking with NIBA College in the past 18 months after accessing funds from the National Workforce Development Fund.

In late 2013, NIBA College secured funding in excess of $300,000 to support broker education, with a second subsidy of more than $125,000 added to the total allowing brokerages from across Australia to train up their staff at heavily-reduced rates.

In total 309 brokers were put through their studies and so far or 72% have completed, with more still to come. Of those, 156 completed their Diploma of Insurance Broking studies, with 66 attaining Certificate IV.

“This has been a real success story,” says NIBA’s Professional Development Executive Linda Evans.

“The NWDF funding allowed brokerages who wouldn’t normally have budgeted to put their staff through training to do so, and to raise the levels of professionalism of their brokers.

“That’s great for the individuals, but there are also real benefits to the businesses, and, ultimately, to the clients. Everyone wins in that equation.”
