Multinational insurance brokerage, AJG celebrates its 90 years of operation this month and our social media feeds are awash with photos of fun celebrations and the Gallagher90 hashtag.
Arthur J. Gallagher, an American insurance agent set up shop on the eve of the Great Depression in 1927. He dealt in advice that protected his business clients against loss. The company he set up has prospered to become one of the largest broking houses in the world today with 25,000 insurance professionals in more than 140 countries.

In 2017, Arthur’s grandson Pat Gallagher is CEO of the now-global business – recognised as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the international Ethisphere Institute. Arthur J. Gallagher began trading in Australia in 2010 and now has more than 30 offices in all states and territories across the country, employing over 2,500 staff. In 2014 Gallagher purchased the insurance broking arm of Wesfarmers Limited, which included OAMPS Insurance Brokers (Australia) and Crombie Lockwood (New Zealand). With its history as an Australian Top 200 listed company and its customer service-driven ethical charter, the acquisition of OAMPS helped enhance and strengthen Gallagher’s local positioning.
