Insurance brokers wow career advisers

NIBA President, Tim Wedlock of Austbrokers AEI and Committee Members Rebecca Wilson and Craig Anderson from Austbrokers ABS represented the insurance broking profession at the Careers Advisers Association Conference in Sydney.

They manned the Careers in Insurance booth at the busy expo-floor and Wedlock and Wilson also presented to a packed room on ‘Working in Insurance’. The presentation was extremely well-received with people clamouring to have a chat post the session.

Career Advisers from NSW turned up in large numbers to speak to representatives from many of Sydney’s universities, TAFE, Armed Forces and corporates.

Insurance broking is a people business believes Wedlock, “Being an ambassador for the profession is something everyone in the industry should be doing to ensure that we thrive and continue to grow.”

Wilson agrees, “We must spread the message of what our role is out through the community and push the value that we as an industry add. So many people came up to us at the event to tell us how interesting it was for them to know more about working in insurance.”

The presentation stressed that insurance is a huge profession and it is the foundation that helps build the world around us. Wedlock spoke to the attendees about how insurance helps people, families, businesses, communities and economies, while Wilson addressed how interesting the profession is and the diversity of jobs and people within it.

Wedlock said, “The level of interest was very high and we had a lot of fun at the same time. I think we surprise a lot of people at these events with the range of career opportunities the insurance profession has to offer.”

For those interested in promoting careers in insurance Wedlock added, “We’re in the process of finalising our “Careers in Insurance” kits which will be available soon!”
