Lumley chief steps down as IAG restructures

John Nagle

Lumley Chief Executive John Nagle has left the firm, with its new owner IAG announcing a new commercial executive team.

Nagle had been with Lumley since 2009. His fellow former Wesfarmers colleague, Wesfarmers Insurance Australian Underwriting CEO David Brown, has also stepped down.

IAG bought the Wesfarmers insurance properties late last year, and the task of integrating them into IAG’s existing business has spurred a corporate restructure by IAG, which is now divided in commercial, personal and enterprise divisions.

CGU CEO-turned-IAG Commercial Chief Executive Peter Harmer thanked Nagle and Brown for their leadership.

“David and John have both shown great support for IAG since December’s announcement, allowing our businesses to form a very positive relationship from the outset,” he says.

Harmer is heading IAG’s new commercial division, with the rest of the team also being announced this week.

CGU Broker and Agency General Manager Ben Bessell will take on the role of Chief Commercial Officer, while former CGU Claims General Manager Donna Walker is the new Broker Business Executive General Manager.

Phuong Ly, formerly CGU’s chief underwriting officer, is now the Agencies Executive General Manager. Wesfarmers Chief Underwriter Andrew Ziolkowski will become the Underwriting Executive General Manager.

Other major appointments are:

  • Stuart Chapman, EGM, Niche and Direct Business
  • Jen Mitchell, EGM, Claims
  • Andrew Jordan, EGM, Strategy, Brand and Risk
  • Malcolm Freeman, EGM, Integration
  • Fiona Phillips, EGM, Transformation

Harmer says: “Our new leadership team brings together people with extensive insurance experience, a deep knowledge of customer and partner needs, and the right qualities to take our business forward to the next level.”
