New entrant aims at construction

A major new player has announced its entry into the construction insurance sector, pairing its offering with claims and engineering expertise.

Earlier this month, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company launched its suite of policies aimed at the construction market, across property, casualty, project professional indemnity and project cargo insurance.

The team assembled hails from across the Australian insurance landscape, with Cameron Holmes heading the team as Construction Manager, moving over from his previous position as IAG National Underwriting Manager for Engineering.

Rob McNab has jumped from CGU to become the Underwriting Manager, while Mark Thompson (ex-AIG) has been appointed Casualty Senior Underwriter. Patrick Whyte (ex-Allianz) has been named Risk Engineering Manager and David Cook is heading claims.

In August, Berkshire Hathaway began underwriting marine risks in Australia and New Zealand, with a team headed by Dimitry Zilberud and Mark Dixon, offering marine cargo, cargo stock throughput, carrier goods in transit, carriers liability and marine project cargo coverages.
