The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) and the Victorian Insurance and Reinsurance Discussion Group (VIRDG) have revealed the winner of the 2019 Mentoring Scholarship: Dion Oryzak from Preddle Pty Ltd.
Oryzak is a self-employed actuarial and strategic consultant who is involved in advising insurers and insurtech start-ups to achieve commercially successful outcomes. He is a qualified actuary (FIAA FCAS MAAA MBA), with fifteen years’ experience in pricing, product design and portfolio management across corporate and consulting environments in Australia and the US.
Committees of both the VIRDG and NIBA were pleased with the quality of the essays received and appreciate the interest this scholarship has received particularly as this was their first joint initiative to provide high quality education and mentoring support to assist in attracting and retaining experienced individuals to the insurance and reinsurance industry.
All applicants have been commended for the high standard of their essays. The NIBA Victoria committee has indicated that it was a tough decision to pick one winner as all papers received provided a thought provoking insight into what the insurance industry will look like in 2029 and that all the participants exemplify the highest standards of skill and competence that exist in the insurance industry.
The Committee congratulated Oryzak and indicated that they look forward to him presenting his paper at the VIRDG-NIBA November luncheon.
Oryzak’s scholarship will involve a mentoring program with key CEOs and senior executives from the Australian insurance/reinsurance industry. He will spend the equivalent of one day with these individuals to obtain firsthand an invaluable insight into what makes a person a CEO.
There will be an opportunity to experience different company cultures and take away experiences that will assist in his personal career development whilst building an enviable network.
