NIBA cancels convention due to COVID-19 concerns

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) CEO, Dallas Booth has announced that the Association has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2020 convention, which was due to be held in Melbourne this October due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 emergency.

He said, “The NIBA Board of Directors has been closely monitoring developments and the advice of authorities, with respect to the novel coronavirus, to ensure we’re taking the necessary steps to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff, delegates, exhibitors, sponsors and suppliers.”

“At this stage, it is very difficult to predict what the situation will be in October, and what restrictions may still be in place. However, after very careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 NIBA Convention, which was due to be held from 26-27 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.”

Booth explained that the decision was not taken lightly, but the health and safety of all attendees is, of course, the Association’s priority. He stressed that NIBA believes this decision will allow its members to focus on their clients, during what is a very difficult time for many.

He also revealed that the team at NIBA, along with the Convention Organising Committee, will focus on delivering delegates an even better experience in 2021. And that the Convention Committee has decided that NIBA 2021 will be held at The Star Gold Coast, from 11-12 October 2021. Be sure to save the date!
