NIBA Convention hailed as the best in years

The NIBA Convention’s first foray to Melbourne has been a resounding success, with close to 2000 industry professionals getting involved with the revitalised format.

Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, NIBA13 featured a streamlined running time but a boost to the technical and business skills aspects, as well as the ever-popular social events.

Session highlights included the likes of Austbrokers Chief Broking Officer Keith McIvor and Steadfast CEO and Managing Director Robert Kelly talking best practice and DUAL Asia-Pacific CEO Damien Coates opening up on the recent fraud in his company.

“I thought it was the best NIBA ever!”

War hero Ben Roberts-Smith also had the audience riveted with his tales of elite SAS missions in Afghanistan and what lessons any businessperson could take from them.

NIBA President David Wyner says the turnout and engagement surpassed his expectations.

“The fact that all of the day visitors turned up and engaged with the exhibitors was outstanding,” he says.

“I thought it was the best NIBA ever!”

Wyner says the new format would be the way forward for future Conventions.

“We now have the basics right,” he says. “It’s going to be all about refinement of this base model to make it even better for future years.”

NIBA CEO Dallas Booth says he was blown away by the delegate numbers.

“We had the highest number of delegates at the Convention for many years and on top of that we had more than 800 people through the Expo Hall over the two days to network with exhibitors, so a big thanks to all our delegates, and to the local brokerages who sent so many of their brokers along to attend the event in some capacity,” he says.

“We’re in the process of surveying all delegates on their thoughts on the Convention and look forward to hearing opinions on what worked well and what didn’t work as well so we can continue to build on the success of this year’s event.”
