NIBA names finalists for NSW/ACT Broker of the Year Award

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has revealed the NSW/ACT Broker of the Year region finalists – Damien Coorey from CRM Brokers, Barry Sonter from Finsura and Anthony Scott from Watkins Taylor Stone.

The Broker of the Year Award, sponsored by QBE, goes to an individual broker who is deemed an inspirational role model for the broking community.

Jason Clarke, Chief Customer Officer, Commercial Lines at QBE Pacific, said: “Congratulations to 2019’s NSW/ACT Broker of the Year finalists, Damien, Barry and Anthony who have shown an outstanding commitment to their clients, community, colleagues and the broader industry. Earning a place as a finalist, among so many high calibre entrants, is a truly impressive accomplishment.

“At QBE our broking partners are key to our success, which is why we’ve proudly partnered with NIBA to recognise the best in the business at both a regional and national level via the Stephen Ball Memorial Award for Insurance Broker of the Year.”

NIBA CEO Dallas Booth congratulated the three NSW/ACT finalists, adding: “We are delighted to recognise the three finalists who have all demonstrated professional excellence in broking practice.”

Coorey said: ” Professionally, this nomination has allowed me to see that the dedication one gives to its industry, despite the often-tiresome solo efforts, ultimately does not go unnoticed — not that recognition is the driver behind it all.

“Rather, it’s the desire to make a difference and to assist others and knowing ultimately that the ripple effect will reach those in the community who see the role of a broker as a vital function for both business and family alike.”

Sonter’s stated: ” Whilst I am extremely proud of the nomination nothing much will change I will continue to work with clients and other stakeholders to provide the very best outcome for their business and personal insurance needs.”

Scott acknowledged that he was fortunate to have a broking career that continues to evolve and said: ” My ongoing commitment to education, being mentored by my industry peers and seeking to be the best broker I can be for our clients, are all reinforced when you receive recognition like this. To be a finalist is very satisfying both personally and professionally.”

The NSW/ACT region winners will be announced at the NIBA NSW Gala Lunch on July 12 at the Hyatt Regency, Sydney. You can now register to attend the lunch.

The regional winner will go on to compete for the Stephen Ball Memorial Award for Insurance Broker of the Year, which will be announced at the 2019 NIBA Convention on the Gold Coast – super early bird registrations for the event end soon.
