Recognition is a key driver to boost productivity and motivate professionals believes Adam Ware, the 2017 recipient of the Vero-sponsored Warren Tickle Memorial Award for Young Professional Broker of the Year.
Adam Ware, Partner and Branch Manager at BJS Insurance Brokers (Gippsland), credits winning the award for his subsequent career progress and believes that when professionals and their efforts are valued, their satisfaction and productivity increases, and they are motivated to maintain or improve their good work, “Post the win, I instantly felt an added responsibility to further develop my leadership skills and to take my own performance to a new level. I feel this has further fuelled that drive to always strive for a high standard of work, completed in an ethical manner and set the best example possible both in the workplace and also while representing the insurance broking profession.”
Ware believes that early professional recognition can help mould better leaders and the Warren Tickle Memorial Award, and notably the professional development days provided him with renewed confidence in his abilities to lead a large team – currently 28 people across two offices.
“Most leaders would attest that having personal success building a large portfolio as opposed to building a successful, well-functioning team of 20+ people requires a different approach in most instances.”
Ware says, in the light of the revelations during the Royal Commission, it is imperative that the exceptional professionals in the financial services sector are encouraged to be better leaders, “The NIBA award reaffirmed that I must be on the right track as all of the state candidates were exceptional people. Receiving the award among such a strong group gave me further confidence that I can successfully go back and lead my team well.”
Ware’s message to employers and managers with talented staff is very simple, recognise and encourage them: If you feel you have a deserving candidate within your business, go ahead and nominate them for the award, you could change a young persons’ life.
Ware encourages insurance broking professionals to seize opportunities such as the NIBA Young Professional Broker Award, “My career has changed and only for the better, I have been able to experience the international market, met some fantastic young leaders and award winners both in insurance and in other industries.” Contacts Ware wil no doubt have for life.
