Bermuda-based specialty insurer StarStone has announced it will launch underwriting operations in Australia.
Subject to regulatory approval, StarStone, which is a subsidiary of Enstar, will be led in Australia by Robin Barham, and will be run alongside Enstar’s existing Australian operations.
StarStone will operate in the small, mid and multinational markets, and will offer a range of niche marine, property and casualty and specialty products in Australia and New Zealand through Lloyd’s syndicate 1301, which it wholly owns. Its head office will be based in Sydney.
Barham joins StarStone with 28 years of insurance experience, including stints at Lloyd’s in London and Catlin in Sydney. Most recently, he led the Arch Syndicate’s operation in Australia as its regional director, and set up a digital underwriting agency, Agile Underwriting Services.
