Two major insurers – Suncorp and Club Marine – have announced new insurance apps aimed at two very different segments of the market.
Suncorp has bought a US$5m equity stake in US-based technology developer Trōv. The two companies first worked together in 2014 on the Trōv app, which enables customers to create a digital inventory of their items on their mobile phones.
In May 2016, the companies will combine to launch an on-demand insurance platform called Trōv Protection, which is integrated into the existing Trōv app. It’s designed to offer customers, particularly millennials, instant access to insurance for single items that are important to them, such as cameras, tablets and laptops.
Trōv Protection will initially provide insurance for technology items, with a broader range of options becoming available over the coming months.
Meanwhile, recreational boating specialist Club Marine has also released its new Club Marine App – said to be ‘made for boaties by boaties’.
Boasting severe weather alerts; safety information and equipment checklists; tide times and a trip planner, the app can also display all of a member’s Club Marine insurance policy and notify them when it is due for renewal.
And should things, the app’s ‘Help Me’ function enables members to contact Club Marine Assist, a 24/7 service that provides advice, assistance, directions, information about marine service centres, a safe place to berth or refuel, and much more. Members can even call for
emergency assistance, record important information about an incident or lodge a claim straight from the app.
The Club Marine App is available for iOS and Android devices.
