Transitions: January 2014

The new year has brought with it plenty of new appointments, including the herald of an underwriter’s new push into Sydney.

ACE Insurance

Brian Reynolds was late last year appointed ACE Insurance’s new Asia Pacific Regional Manager of Surety. Previously the ACE’s US Vice President of International Surety, Reynolds will be based in Sydney.

Actuaries Institute

The key industry body has announced a new leadership team for 2014.Daniel Smith, Director of actuarial firm Taylor Fry, has stepped up as the 2014 president, replacing John Newman. Former Actuary of the Year Estelle Pearson has been appointed Senior Vice President, withLindsay Smartt joining her as Vice President.

ATC Insurance Solutions

Underwriter ATC has signalled its push into the NSW market, opening a Sydney office and appointing Angie Zissis as NSW State Manager. Zissis was formerly the Finance Director at Marsh Australia, among other high profile roles.

ATC specialises in construction, plant and equipment, income protection and sport insurance.

ATC CEO Chris Anderson says: “To have attracted a senior executive with his expertise and experience is a strong endorsement of our recent business performance and our plans for growth in the next few years.

Underwriting Agencies Council

Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency CEO Lyndon Turner and Catlin Australia Operations Manager Peter Fryer are the two newest members of the Underwriting Agencies Council board. John Iles and Anthony Porter have stepped down their positions. Heath Amber has been elected the new chairman.


Willis has named its new State Manager for South Australia, appointing Luke Ware to the role. As well as experience in Perth, Ware has worked for a number of years in the UK and is expected to bring his global experience to bear in the new role.
