Transitions: July 2014

July has proven to be a busy month in the insurance industry with some major transitions taking place.



ACE Group have appointed three new members to their construction portfolio.

Stephen Pollard has been appointed as Manager of Construction for Australia and New Zealand.

Pollard has spent the last seven years based in Manchester working for ACE Europe.

Michael Fletcher has been promoted to Construction Underwriting Manager for Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Kent Baerlocher has taken up the position of Construction Underwriter for Australia and New Zealand.

Baerlocher previously worked as a Mechanical Engineer and has worked on a number of power generation and oil and gas projects.



Michael Ng has been appointed Property Underwriter for Argo International’s Singapore-based Lloyd’s underwriting platform.

Ng has more than 20 years experience in insurance and joins Argo from the RSA Singapore branch.


Cooper Gay

Martin Stephenson has been appointed the new CEO of the combined reinsurance business between Cooper Gay and Newman Martin and Buchan LLP.

Stephenson comes from the Managing Director role at NMB Reinsurance division and brings with him extensive experience.



Mike Cutter has stepped down as OAMPS CEO.

Following on from its recent purchase of Wesfarmers’ broking businesses, Arthur J Gallagher has appointed Andrew Godden as the Chief Executive of its expanded Australian operations.

Steve Lockwood, former executive chairman of the Wesfarmers Insurance brokerage operations, has been appointed as Gallagher’s new Australia and New Zealand head and tasked with overseeing the integration of the broking properties.


TAL have announced the appointment of Edith Pfister to the newly created role of Strategic Finance General Manager.

The role brings the responsibilities of making sure mergers, acquisitions and strategic development take place.

TAL CFO Kent Griffin says the appointment of Pfister is a step in the direction for Australia’s largest life insurer.

“By bringing together these functions, and in the appointment of Edith who has extensive experience in these areas, TAL can enhance the focus on our new strategic direction,” he says.

“The heart of our new strategy is a deep customer focus in all areas of the business so that we can deliver the experience, products and services our customers both want and need in ways of their choosing.”


Westcourt General

Jonathan Lampard has been appointed as the new NSW State Manager for Westcourt.

Lampard joins Westcourt from an Account Manager role at Allianz.

Jeff Hollands, Managing Director of Westcourt General, says Lampard brings great experience to the team.

“Jonathan’s strong business acumen and experience will be a great addition to the Westcourt General team. We believe he will extend a high level of service to our authorised representative network,” he says.



Whitbread have announced the appointment of John Leavey to their Sydney office.

Whitbread CEO Stephen Jones says Leavey brings expertise to the team with experience working for major insurers Marsh and CGU.

“The appointment of John Leavey to head up NSW’s commercial broking team reflects our commitment to providing expertise and experience that creates value for you and your business,” he says.

“Our expanded and strengthened NSW team will ensure we continue to deliver a superior level of customer service to meet the insurance needs of your business, today and into the future.”
