Brooklyn Underwriting

Tim Fairbrother has joined the Brooklyn team as a Business Development Executive. Fairbrother has entered the insurance industry after a successful ten-year career as a professional rugby union player, having represented the Wellington Hurricanes, Western Australia Force and UK team, The Harlequins.

Shane Goulding has ascended to the position of Assistant Underwriter in Commercial Lines. He previously held the position of administration assistant and Business Development for Online Products.

Madeeha Zali will also commence in the role of Assistant Underwriter for Professional Lines. Zali will previously worked as a Team Assistant for Brooklyn.

Alex Batson, Max Wood and Jeremy O’Connor have joined the company as Team Administrators

Rado Polic will bring his extensive industry experience to his new role of Underwriting Manager, Commercial Lines. The position will involve Polic overseeing all technical underwriting functions handled in the company’s EPS (Property) and Liability areas of business.


Bernadette Casey will take on the position of National Claims Manager, effective 4 November 2013. Casey will draw on her extensive experience in senior broking, underwriting, reinsurance underwriting, management and most recently as the Underwriting and Reinsurance Manager at LawCover.

Jaydon Burke-Douglas will reassume his role of Speciality Risks Practice Leader as a result of Casey’s appointment. Burke-Douglas worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the fraud that took place earlier this year to help ensure DUAL’s brokers and insured were not affected.

Simone Shepherd has been promoted to the role of Claims Practice Leader in response to the changes taking place in the DUAL claims department. Shepherd has made an immense contribution to the department since joining DUAL in 2011.

Guy Carpenter & Company

Matthew Rose will assume the newly created position of Principal, Capital and Strategy. Rose is no stranger to the finance and insurance sector, having spent 23 years working with companies including Suncorp, Wesfarmers Insurance and Zurich.

Tom Harvey has been appointed to the role of Catastrophe Analyst. The role will involve developing models to predict the impact of natural disasters at individual locations in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to his appointment Harvey gained experience at a range of mining exploration companies.

Samantha Dew will make the journey to Sydney from Marsh London as a member of an intergroup transfer. Dew will be primarily responsible for broking casualty placements for large global clients.

Valerie Badcock will bolster the London contingent with her experiences from Willis Re.

Kim Collins has been assigned to broking property placements, while Teresa Aquilina has settled into her role as Senior Vice President with more than 20 years of experience in property and casualty underwriting.

International Actuarial Association

Fred Rowley has been announced as the President-Elect of the International Actuarial Association. This position will give Rowley opportunity to set the global direction and agenda of the actuarial profession for the future. Rowley is currently the Chief Actuary at TAL Life and brings with him 15 years of experience at the Actuaries Institute, serving as a member and later President. Rowley will commence his position as President-Elect on 1 January 2014 and is expected to become President in 2015.

Willis Group Holdings

Neil Gray has accepted the position of State General Manager – Western Australia. Gray will play a pivotal role in major account servicing, business development and underwriter dealings as well as assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations. Gray will use his 11 years of experience in the industry to  inform his contributions to the Willis Australasian Executive team and will report to Deputy CEO of Willis Australia Tony Barber. Gray is also a former member of the WA NIBA Committee, serving as WA Chairman from 2007 to 2009.
