Three of the sharpest brokers in the country are vying to be named NIBA College’s Student of the Year.
Jeremy Thornton (Complete Risk Solutions, Insurance Advisernet, NSW), Jessica Cunningham (Robert K Green & Associates, Victoria) and Jessica Knight (Knightcorp, WA) have been named finalists for the third annual NIBA College Student of the Year award, sponsored by QBE.

Knight says she was humbled to be named a finalist, and credited her success to her network of peers.
“I have a wealth of knowledge at my disposal from either my experienced staff, underwriters and the mentors at NIBA,” she says.
Thornton says his success at his studies has armed him with renewed confidence when doing business.
“The key benefit [of NIBA College] has been giving me confidence that we are heading in the right direction,” he says.
“There were a few things I was doing ad hoc that now I can put a frame around and be clear on what the benefit is for our clients.”
Cunningham says being named a finalist was a huge shock, and credited it to the support she received while completing her Block 2 via a NIBA College workshop.
“The three-day workshop was brilliant and gave me a really good foundation,” she says. “I found it very useful and it gave me lots of motivation to finish my studies.”
Colin Fagen, CEO of QBE Australia and New Zealand, says recognising young talent is vital for the future of the industry.
“We’re excited to be supporting the Student of the Year Award for the third time and continuing our commitment to building a strong future for the insurance industry,” he says.
“We know we work in a highly specialised industry and believe its success is built on the depth of our talent and our ability to attract new entrants and develop their skills.”
Each will now travel to the NIBA Convention, held in Melbourne from 6–8 September, to find out who will take home the final prize, which includes an opportunity to participate in the prestigious QBE eQuip program, as well a cash prize of $1000.
